Systems Thinking Tools

The tool that we are using to present to the School Board using is the Causal Loop. But is it the best? Vote on our poll: http://freeonlinesurveys.com/app/showpoll.asp?qid=258385&sid=e7k7ewtp4zvrgqi258385&new=true

Yes, I know that you may not know about Systems Thinking. So ignore this post if you don't. But please vote if you do.

Our speech to the School Board:

So, if you didn't know from our last post, we are a group of fifth graders interested in reducing waste, such as garbage cans and lights, in our school. We have a meeting with the school board on May 6. Here is our speech.

The Waste group is reducing waste by several means, one of which is the LED lights that we are currently raising money for. LED lights are a large improvement over CFL’s for many reasons, two of which are that they last longer(25 yrs to 1.5 yrs for CFL’s) which prevents coal and mercury pollution from changing the lights too often, and use less power(22W to 32W for CFL’s).
Also, we are attempting to reduce garbage bags. We have reduced 10 of 39 garbage cans this year. In our classroom alone, we have reduced 360 garbage bags a year, that’s enough to stretch all the way to the top of the Empire State Building, with each garbage bag 5 ft long. In the school, we have reduced 1,800 garbage bags, enough to stretch 9,000 ft high.

The Board meeting is on May 6, 6 pm. We'll post afterward to tell you how it went.

How much did we reduce?

Answer: 9,000 feet of garbage bags, and also we have raised $650 for the LED Lights.

If you're just joining us, (which you are) we are a group of fifth graders interested in reduction of waste, baseball, basketball, soccer, and other things as well.
